Artist Statement

I paint in the style of contemporary realism, using oil as my primary medium. My work is mainly focused on food, fish and water. I am attracted to this subject matter as they represent the evanescence beauty in our everyday life.

Intrigued by the Japanese worldview of wabi-sabi, or the aesthetic of impermanence and transience, my artwork centers around celebrating the ephemerality of everyday life. With this perspective in mind, my emphasis lies on capturing the fleeting attractions that often are taken for granted. I aim to bring the whimsical essence to enrich the representation of the subject matter.

I approach the method of art making by elaborating color, form and structure using loose brushstrokes, as inspired by Wayne Thiebaud, William Merritt Chase and Claude Monet. This technique allows me to connect with the subject matter by expressing my gratitude towards their existence.  As gratitude is an essential part of practicing mindfulness, I strive to be aware in the present moment during the painting process.

I am a native Indonesian. I graduated from Studio Incamminati, a small painting atelier in Philadelphia, in 2016. Prior to pursuing my artistic journey, I was a public relations consultant in Jakarta, Indonesia. Since 2014, I have shown my works in numerous locations around the United States, including Philadelphia, PA, Dallas, TX and Santa Fe, NM. I had my first solo show at Twenty-Two Gallery, Philadelphia,  in August 2017.  My paintings are included in several private collections.
